Meet the Governors

Miss P. Wilson

Head Teacher

How do you 'aim high to achieve success'?

I never give up!  If I want something, I know it’s up to me to get it.

Who was your favourite teacher at school and why?

Mr. Keane; my English Teacher in Secondary School.  He was always firm, but fair!  He had an amazing way of explaining everything.  He made me realise my potential and always had faith in me, even when I let myself down.  I have always modelled myself, as a teacher, on his example.  Thanks, Mr. Keane.

Mr Dami Awobajo

Chair of Governors

What is your role as governor?

I'm the chair of Governors and Vice Chair of the Finance Committee. I, with the other governors, act as a critical friend to the school so that Abbott continues to be the great school that it is. I have always wanted to make a positive contribution in education and have been able to do so. I have been able to bring my experience from previous schools where I have been a governor, as well as my skills and experience from my professional life, in particular financial management and data analysis.

How do you 'aim high to achieve success'?

For me this has always been about being determined and dedicated enough to make the most of your talents and abilities in whatever you do in the life. And that being its own reward.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

All holiday destinations have their charm. Particularly memorable was travelling around the Pacific North West, spending time in Washington, Oregon and crossing over to British Columbia.

How do you 'aim high to achieve success'?

I have always set high expectations of myself and of others and strive to deliver the very best of myself in all I do.  I celebrate success and enjoy the achievements of others when they exceed expectations.

What is the best film you have ever seen?

There are too many to choose from but I am going to pick Schindler’s List.  I was working in Krakow for about three years, so was able to visit many of the locations used and also see the real places as well.  This brought the history to life for me.

Mrs Jenny Davies

Co-opted Governor

What is your role as governor?

I joined the Governing Board of Abbott Primary School, as I was so impressed when I visited the school and wanted to be part of those working to make it the best school for the children to do really well.

How do you 'aim high to achieve success'?

Everything I do I try to do my best, whether it’s baking or working on something for a school. I love to try new things and wont give up. My first attempts at making pasta was terrible , what a mess, but I’ve cracked it now and can do it –no mess!

Who was your favourite teacher at school and why?

Mr Middleton jn Y5. He was quite strict but was very funny too. He loved teaching. He was quite old and had lost part of his leg in the Second World War. He used to take anyone who wanted to go on trips on a Saturday. He had a friend who worked at the Houses of Parliament,  who took us in places that other visitors can’t go.  I learned things on those days out that I’ve never forgotten. Everyone remembers a teacher who made a real difference to their lives.

My favourite food is fish and chips and strawberry trifle (preferably not on the same plate). When I get time I like nothing more than having my family and friends round for food and drinks– when my family affectionately refer to me as “the hostess with the mostess”.
