Maths, geography, English and science

WOW, what an action packed term we have had. In English, we have been reading Trash by Andy Mulligan. Despite having more mature themes, the children have really sank their teeth into the novel and have been asking some fantastic questions to develop their understanding. We have specifically focused on vocabulary through this book and have used etymology to help us guess the meaning to unfamiliar words.

In science, we covered evolution and inheritance. We learned all about the book the Molliebird and how the bird changed and adapted by chance to suit its environment to survive. We also used tweezers and chopsticks to see which 'bird' would pick up the most seeds and predicted who would be more likely to survive.

In maths, we have covered so much this term! We finished learning how to divide by 2 digit numbers, looked at how to use the order of operations (we modelled our understanding through using counters for this). We also have started to look at fractions and adding and subtracting with different denominators.

We also started geography and looked at the Silk Road and looked and why it was once one of the most important trade routes in the world.
