Art- Spirals

Date: 10th Jan 2024 @ 8:26pm

We have been learning that drawing is a physical and emotional activity and that when we draw we can move our whole body. I challenged the children to use different tools (2B pencils, handwriting pens, graphite sticks, pencil crayons) to create a spiral on a large piece of paper. They then used their sketch books to create loud, quiet, fast and slow spirals; the children enjoyed discussing the difference between the spirals they had drawn.

We then found out about a Danish artist called Molly Haslund, who makes drawings outside using her body as a drawing tool. The children then re-created some of her overlapping circles in their sketchbooks and outside using chalk.

Following on from their spiral drawings, the children created 'snail drawings' on black sugar paper using chalk. This exercise explored different qualities of line, colour blending and mark making.
