Autumn 1: Week 4

Date: 23rd Sep 2021 @ 7:10pm

This week has flown by!!

We have now finished our book 'The Promise'. The children were shocked with the ending, but happy at the same time. A lot of our work this week has been about the main character in the story (the little girl). We have been exploring her actions and motives and how they show us more about her personality. To help us with this, we completed a thoughts and feelings task for when she opened the bag and found the acorns. We also used drama techniques such as hot seating, freeze-framing, and thought tracking to help us truly understand her. This really helped the children imagine that they were the character and they wrote fantastic diary entries.

In Maths, we have been consolidating our understanding of place value by ordering and comparing numbers up to 10,000 as well as recapping rounding numbers to 10, 100, and 1000, using number lines to help.

Our afternoons have mainly consisted of art. We learned about a famous artist called Georges Seurat, and his incredible Pointillism work, which we enjoyed recreating. Firstly, we practised using paint and cotton buds, felt tips, and crayons, then we explored how he made dots of two colours close together to make a secondary colour (e.g. red and yellow dots close together to make it look orange)- the children were amazed by this! Lastly, we learned about Paul Signac and recreated one of his most famous images, but used an image of ourselves.

Also, we had our first Commando Joes' outdoor session, which really put us through our paces!

A huge well done to Milan for being this week's Star Learner. She has shown an excellent understanding of ordering and comparing 4-digit numbers.
