Autumn 1- Week 5

Date: 4th Oct 2023 @ 2:08pm

The children have started to work at their tables with their carpet partners more this week; this is helping them to build their collaborative skills, as well as develop their speaking and listening skills. I am really proud of how well they are adapting to using more Kagan structures, and they are enjoying it too!

In English, we have found out that Bog Baby has started to become sick! The children have also learnt what a diary entry is and can identify some of the features of one. They then put themselves in Chrissy and her sister's shoes and wrote excellent diary entries as if they were one of the girls.

We have started to explore addition in maths, and, through the use of part-whole models and counters, the children are getting very confident in writing number sentences based on what their part-whole models show.

The children thoroughly enjoyed making secondary colours, by using the three primary colours (red, yellow and blue) in art.

October is Black History Month so we have been learning about a man called Len Johnson who was a boxer and activist from Manchester. He was considered to be one of the best middleweights of his era and was the first non-white boxer to hold a major title during the British Colour Bar Era.
