Autumn 2: Week 3

Date: 14th Nov 2023 @ 2:17pm

This week, we have been learning all about non-fiction texts in English. We have identified features found in a fact file and the children used these to write their own all about penguins. The children have been working a lot more with their carpet partners, and I am so impressed at how well they've been working collaboratively.

In Maths, we have started learning all about 3D and 2D shapes. The children have enjoyed the different activities that have been set up to consolidate their understanding of cubes, cuboids, spheres and pyramids. We played a whole class sorting game which the children loved!

In the afternoons, we have been doing science. The children now know the names of lots of different body parts and can identify where they should be: they drew around a child in their group and labelled the outline with body parts. They also loved exploring our Curiosity Cube which was linked to the senses. Inside it was broccoli and foaming soap; this generated lots of questions! The children have been exploring their senses through taste, smell and touch tests.

We were also very lucky to have someone from Biffa come in and teach us all about recycling. The children now have a much better understanding of the importance of recycling as well as which bins they should be using.
