Autumn 2: Week 4

Date: 23rd Nov 2023 @ 6:41am

This week, we continued to read Lost and Found: the children were very excited to find out that the little boy and the penguin returned to the Antarctic and had been inferring what they thought would happen next. We took a virtual trip to the Antarctic and imagined what it must have been like and used this as a stimulus and wrote a postcard home.

In maths, we have started to explore the relationship between 3D and 2D shapes, understanding what 2D shapes they can see in 3D shapes. To help with this, the children made their own 2D shapes people by printing sides of 3D shapes. Afterwards, they were able to tell me which 3D shape they had used and which 2D shape they had made.

We have just started our new DT unit by exploring different Christmas decorations. The children used fantastic vocabulary to describe the decorations and could tell me lots of features they could see such as shiny, soft, plastic, heart-shaped and star-shaped. We even had one that was described as looking like a disco ball as it had mirrored squares on it. They have also been working hard at improving their cutting skills in preparation for making their own next week.

On Friday's we always start the day with a Go Noodle dance- the children LOVED banana, banana, milkshake!

As always, the children have impressed me with their wonderful attitudes to learning and it was so nice that you could all see their fabulous work at Parents' Evening- I am so proud of the progress that they have made.
