Bonfire Night and Materials

Date: 11th Nov 2021 @ 2:35pm

Year 2 discussed lots of different times when they see fireworks and how they make them feel. We watched a New Year's Eve fireworks performance filmed at Manchester Town Hall. Then the children learnt why we have fireworks on 5th November and created art of their own using oil pastels. The patterns and shapes that they made we really interesting.

We began our new STEM topic 'Living in a Material World'. I was pleased how many materials the children could name but then we learnt more about different properties and that the same object can be made from different materials. We discussed why you might choose a plastic over a metal knife and why some bottles are made of glass but others are made of plastic. They observed different objects closely and recorded the properties of the different materials they had been given.
