🌼 Celebrating Saint David’s Day with Daffodils 🌼

Date: 3rd Mar 2026 @ 3:51pm

Our Early Years children welcomed the beginning of spring in a very special way – by planting beautiful daffodil bulbs to celebrate Saint David’s Day!

We learnt all about Saint David’s Day. That it is celebrated on 1st March, and it is a time to honour the patron saint of Wales. The daffodil, a bright and cheerful flower, is a traditional symbol of the day and a wonderful sign that spring is just around the corner. To mark the occasion, our EYFS children planted daffodils in pots, which will soon brighten up our outdoor area.

The children were full of excitement as they carefully filled the pots with soil. With their trowels they made small holes, gently placed the bulbs inside, and covered them up ready to grow. We talked about what plants need to thrive – soil, water, sunlight, and lots of patience!

Planting the daffodils gave us a lovely opportunity to explore:

  • 🌱 How plants grow and change over time

  • 🌼 The signs of spring

  • 🐝 The importance of caring for our environment

The children showed fantastic teamwork, listening carefully to instructions and helping one another throughout the activity.

We have placed the pots outside in the garden and look forward to watching our daffodils grow over the coming weeks as we celebrate the arrival of spring together.

Well done, EYFS. What wonderful gardeners you are! 🌞🌷
