Chemistry with Cabbage

Date: 3rd Dec 2020 @ 7:27am

We were super lucky on Wednesday and had the opportunity to take part in a science day linked to chemisty (with cabbage)! It does sound super strange but we learnt that cabbage juice helps us to work out if something is: an acid, an alkali or neautral because it changes colour depending on what we have mixed it with.

It was very interesting and we conducted many experiments to see what chemical reactions different liquids would have. We tested: lemon juice, vinegar, soap and many more! We then learnt that acids and alkalis are opposites of each other and just like you can mix black and white to make grey you can do the same with acids, alkalis and neutral. Depending on what you add, it can change how acidic your solution is! We loved having the chance to spend some time experimenting with this :)
