Children's Mental Health Week

Date: 5th Feb 2024 @ 3:51pm

During Children’s Mental Health Week, we had a very in-depth discussion about how children have a right to be listened to and that their voices matter! We read the story ‘Speak Up: You Can Make A Difference by Nathan Bryan and Dapo Adeola. The book is about bookworm Rocket who loves to collect new books on her weekly visit to the library and to read all about inspirational figures like Rosa Parks. She is heartbroken when she discovers that something is happening to the library. The children thoroughly enjoyed reading it and learnt a valuable message about how speaking up can make a difference. After reading the book, the children wrote letters to Rocket explaining how inspiring they thought she was. They also designed their dream library- take a look at some of their fabulous designs. Hopefully, one day we may be able to have a library like some of them at school!

As well as this, we were lucky enough to take part in a Zoom session with author Sunita Chawdhary. In this interactive event, she uses the sports and well-being themes from her new book Mind and Me: Going to Bat to encourage young children to connect with their feelings. She read her new story about a young girl called Maya who is excited to join the school cricket club. But, with sports, school and family Maya has a lot to handle, and she thinks she might be forgetting something important.
