Reception Autumn 2 Week 5
Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 5:05pm
This week in Reception we have been very busy continuing our learning and getting into the festive spirit!
In literacy, we began our new book Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. The children have really enjoyed sharing the story and talking about the different characters. For our focus task, we thought of a new character that Stick Man could meet on his adventures. The children came up with some fantastic ideas and used their phonics to help label their drawings.
We also had lots of fun exploring and searching for sticks outdoors, which we used to create our very own Stick Men in the creative area. The children showed great imagination as they designed their characters. In the playdough area, we even made Stick Men using different tools and materials, which helped develop fine motor skills and creativity.
In maths, we moved on to number bonds to 5 using the part–whole model. We explored how a whole number can be split into two parts and enjoyed using a “cake” to represent the whole before sharing it into different parts. This practical approach really helped the children understand the concept of number bonds.
We have also been very busy rehearsing for our Christmas production, as it won’t be long until the big performance! The children are working so hard to learn their songs and actions. Please send in any remaining outfits next week if you haven’t done so already.
We ended the week with another fantastic dance session. The children are becoming very confident with the different moves and are enjoying putting the steps together with music.
It has been a wonderful week of creativity, learning, and excitement. Well done, Reception!
