Reception Class Blog – Week 2

Date: 19th Sep 2025 @ 4:16pm

What a wonderful second week we've had in Reception!

This week, we began our exciting new topic ‘Marvellous Me’. The children have loved getting to know more about themselves and each other. One of our favourite activities was creating self-portraits. The children used mirrors to look carefully at their features and chose colours and materials to make their portraits unique and personal. They are now proudly displayed in our classroom for everyone to enjoy!

We also shared the lovely book ‘Marvellous Me’ in our literacy sessions, which helped us talk about what makes us special. The children were so thoughtful when discussing their families, likes and dislikes, and what makes them who they are.

In Maths, we have been working with numbers to 3. The children have been busy counting a variety of objects from around the classroom and outdoor area, using their fingers to represent numbers, and beginning to recognise numerals in the world around them. The children are becoming more confident every day!

This week also marked the start of our Read Write Inc. phonics sessions. We’ve been introduced to our very first sounds and are already working hard to read and write them. We are so proud of how focused and enthusiastic the children have been. What a fantastic start to their phonics journey!

Even though the weather has been very wet, it hasn’t stopped us from having fun. In fact, it’s made outdoor play even more exciting! The children have loved exploring the outdoor area, splashing in puddles, and watching the rain fall – a great way to learn through play and nature.

We’re so proud of how well the children are settling into school life and can’t wait to see what next week brings!
