Reception - Spring 2, Week 2 🌷📚

Date: 6th Mar 2026 @ 5:30pm

We have had another busy and exciting week in Reception! It was lovely to see some sunshine this week, which meant we were able to spend lots of time outside exploring our outdoor environment. The children really enjoyed making the most of the fresh air, investigating the outdoor environment and engaging in lots of active play and discovery.

This week in literacy we continued our work on The Gingerbread Man. We focused on some of the unfamiliar words from the story and spent time learning their meanings. The children have been practising using these new words during our storytelling sessions and in their writing. It has been wonderful to see them becoming more confident retelling the story and using the new vocabulary in their own sentences.

In maths, we carried on learning about number bonds to 10. The children are becoming more confident with these important number facts and have been practising them through games and activities. We will keep revisiting these to help the children remember them and continue building their confidence with numbers.

Thursday was World Book Day, and it was fantastic to see so many children coming to school dressed as their favourite characters. There were some brilliant costumes! We had a lovely day filled with stories, crafts and book-themed activities.

One of the highlights of the day was teaming up with the Year 3 children. The older children read stories to us, which was a really special experience for everyone. It was a fun-filled day enjoyed by all and a wonderful way to celebrate our love of reading.

We are very proud of all the children for another great week in Reception! 😊
