πΌ Reception β Summer 1, Week 1 πΌ
Date: 17th Apr 2026 @ 5:08pm
What a fantastic start to the summer term! The children returned to school full of enthusiasm and were excited to begin our new topic, “Come Outside.”
We began our new topic by introducing our planting and growing theme. The children have already shown great curiosity and interest in learning about how things grow, and we are looking forward to exploring this further over the coming weeks.
In Literacy, we introduced the story We Found a Seed by Rob Ramsden. The children have really enjoyed sharing this story each day and talking about how the characters discovered what a seed needs to grow.
Using what we had learnt, we wrote a list of what seeds need to grow. The children used their phonics skills to Fred talk the words and made fantastic attempts at independently writing their lists. We were so impressed with their confidence and effort!
In the creative area, the children have been busy painting beautiful flowers, which are now brightening up our classroom displays.
Our role play area has been transformed into a flower shop, where the children have had great fun buying and selling different types and colours of flowers. It has been lovely to see their imaginative play and conversations.
We have also introduced new flower garden construction toys, and the children have worked wonderfully together to build some amazing flower gardens. Their teamwork and creativity have been fantastic to see!
In Maths, we have started our new topic: counting on and counting back from 10.
This week we have been focusing on adding by counting on. We used number tracks to help us with this and practised moving forwards to find our answers.
We even made a giant number track across our classroom floor! The children had lots of fun rolling a dice and jumping along the track to work out their answers. It was a great way to bring our learning to life!
On Friday we started our new athletics sessions in P.E. We went onto the field and had running and egg and spoon races. It was lots of fun!
It has been a wonderful first week back, and we are so proud of how engaged and excited the children have been in their learning. We are looking forward to continuing our “Come Outside” topic next week! πΈπΏβ¨
