🌼 Reception – Summer 1, Week 3 🌼

Date: 1st May 2026 @ 3:48pm

We have had another lovely week in Reception as we continued our “Come Outside” topic.

This week we introduced a new story, The Extraordinary Gardener by Sam Boughton. In this story, we learnt about Joe and how he used his imagination and creativity to create an amazing garden for everyone to enjoy.

The children really enjoyed discussing the story and thinking about how they could create their own gardens. We even drew and decorated them in the creative area!

In our literacy learning, we used our phonics skills to label the different parts of a plant. The children worked hard to sound out words and write them independently, and we were very impressed with their efforts and growing confidence.

In Maths, we have been looking at numbers to 20. We have been using two ten frames together to represent our teen numbers, helping the children to understand how numbers are made up of ten and some more.

With the beautiful weather, we have spent lots of time learning outdoors. The children have especially enjoyed our water play this week, where we have engaged in lots of fun activities such as:

  • Making potions
  • Catching ducks
  • Filling and emptying containers

It has been wonderful to see the children exploring, collaborating and having so much fun in the sunshine!

We are so proud of the children’s hard work and enthusiasm this week and look forward to more exciting learning next week! β˜€οΈπŸŒΈπŸ’§
