🌼 Reception – Summer 1, Week 4 🌼
Date: 8th May 2026 @ 4:41pm
This week has been a short week in school with the May Bank Holiday and school being closed for Polling Day. Nevertheless, we have squeezed in lots of fun and learning!
We continued reading The Extraordinary Gardener by Sam Boughton during our literacy sessions.
This week, our focus task was to design and label our own extraordinary gardens. The children used their imaginations to create some amazing gardens filled with colourful flowers, exciting features and lots of creative ideas. We were so impressed with the fantastic results and the children worked hard to use their phonics skills to label their designs independently.
In Maths, we moved on to learning about doubling.
The children impressed us with how quickly they understood the concept of doubles and they are growing in confidence with their rapid recall of doubles to 10. We explored doubles in lots of practical and fun ways, helping the children to spot patterns and build their number confidence.
Our revamped mud kitchen reopened this week and the children have absolutely loved exploring the area!
We have:
- Found lots of bugs and minibeasts
- Made mud pies and potions
- Enjoyed imaginative outdoor play with friends
It has been wonderful to see the children working together, exploring nature and developing their creativity outdoors.
On Friday, we had our P.E. session and continued with athletics on the field.
The children are really enjoying practising different races and especially love competing against each other! It has been lovely to see their enthusiasm, teamwork and determination during our activities.
Even though it has been a shorter week, we have packed so much into our learning. Well done Reception for another fantastic week! ☀️🌱🐞
