🌼 Reception – Summer 1, Week 5 🌼
Date: 15th May 2026 @ 4:51pm
We have had another exciting week in Reception as we continued our “Come Outside” topic and began learning all about minibeasts!
This week we learnt about what minibeasts are and where they live. The children enjoyed identifying different types of minibeasts and talking about their habitats.
We then had lots of fun going on a minibeast hunt outside to see what creatures we could find in our outdoor area. The children were very excited to discover different bugs and insects and carefully observed where they were hiding.
In the creative area, we also painted colourful minibeasts, and the classroom is now looking bright and cheerful with all of our wonderful artwork on display.
In Maths, we moved on to learning about halving.
We began the week by sharing breadsticks fairly so that every child received one. This practical activity helped the children to understand what it means to split something into two equal groups.
As the week went on, we explored halving numbers and by the end of the week many children were confidently recalling halving facts for numbers up to 10. We are so proud of their progress!
In P.E. this week, we had lots of fun playing games together, including:
- Traffic Lights
- Stuck in the Mud
The children showed fantastic listening skills, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the games and thoroughly enjoyed being active.
It has been another wonderful week full of learning, exploration and fun. We are looking forward to continuing our minibeast adventures next week! 🐛☀️🌿
