🌟 Reception – Summer 2, Week 1 🌟
Date: 12th Jun 2026 @ 5:26pm
We would like to welcome everyone back after our half-term holiday. The majority of the children returned to school well-rested, happy and excited to learn! Unfortunately, we have had lots of children off with chicken pox this week. We hope you are all starting to feel better and can return to school soon. We have missed you!
This week we started our new topic, "Amazing Animals." For the next two weeks, we will be focusing on farm animals and learning all about the animals that live on a farm.
Our story this week has been What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson. The children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story, which is set on a farm. We have used it to deepen our understanding of different farm animals and the noises they make.
For our Literacy focus task, we wrote about what the ladybird heard on the farm. The children did a fantastic job using their phonics to write about the thieves wanting to steal the fine prize cow! We were so impressed with their independent writing and growing confidence.
The children have also enjoyed playing with the farm in our small world area and have been busy painting farm animals in the creative area.
In Maths, we revisited number bonds to 10. The children really impressed us with how well they remembered the different number facts. They were absolute superstars and showed great confidence when recalling their number bonds!
This week we had our class photograph taken. The children looked wonderful and were very sensible during the photo session.
Please remember to scan the QR code on the letter sent home if you wish to purchase your child's photograph.
Today we came to school dressed in our football kits to celebrate the start of the World Cup. The children looked fantastic in their team colours!
We enjoyed a football lesson in the hall where we practised our ball skills, dribbling and scoring goals. Everyone had lots of fun and showed great enthusiasm and teamwork.
It has been a fantastic first week back and we are looking forward to continuing our learning about farm animals next week. Well done, Reception, for such a brilliant start to the half term! 🐷🐑🐄⚽🌟
