🐣 Reception – Summer 2, Week 2 🐣
Date: 19th Jun 2026 @ 12:38pm
What an exciting week it has been in Reception!
🐥 Our Chick Visitors
This week has been extra special as we have had chicks come to visit us! The eggs arrived on Monday and we eagerly watched and waited to see what would happen.
On Tuesday, we noticed some of the eggs starting to crack, which was very exciting. Then, on Wednesday morning, we had a lovely surprise when we arrived at school – four baby chicks had hatched and were waiting to meet us! Our final chick hatched on Thursday morning, bringing our total to ten fluffy little visitors.
The children have loved observing the chicks and learning about how they grow. Our job now is to help take care of them and watch them develop over the next few days.
Please keep checking the school website and Class Dojo for regular chick updates!
🐄 Amazing Animals – Farm Topic
This week we finished our learning about farm animals.
In Literacy, the children created their own farm animal fact files. Each child chose a farm animal to write about and used their phonics knowledge to write facts about their chosen animal. We were very impressed with their enthusiasm and the fantastic writing they produced.
🔺 Maths – Composing and Decomposing Shapes
In Maths, we moved on to a new topic: composing and decomposing shapes.
The children have really enjoyed the practical side of this learning. Using our magnetic shapes, they explored how smaller shapes can be combined to make larger shapes and how shapes can be broken apart into different pieces.
We have seen some fantastic creativity and problem-solving as the children have built and investigated lots of different shape combinations.
It has been a wonderful week filled with excitement, learning and lots of chick cuddles! We are looking forward to another busy week ahead.
