Reception – Summer 2, Week 4
Date: 3rd Jul 2026 @ 5:23pm
It has been great to return to our normal routine this week, and we have been super busy catching up on everything we missed during last week's hot weather. The children have settled back into their learning brilliantly and have worked so hard!
🐠 Amazing Animals – Sea Creatures
This week we moved on to learning about animals that live in the sea. The children have loved exploring our sea creature small world area, using their imaginations to create underwater adventures and talking about the different creatures they know.
📚 Literacy – Tiddler
In Literacy, we started our new story, Tiddler by Julia Donaldson.
The children really enjoyed listening to the story and spotting all of the different sea creatures that appeared throughout Tiddler's adventures.
For our focus task, we wrote about why Tiddler was late for school. The children used their phonics skills brilliantly to write about the imaginative excuses Tiddler gave, and we were so impressed with their fantastic ideas and growing confidence in independent writing.
🔢 Maths – Capacity
In Maths, we moved on to learning about capacity.
The children learnt to identify and use the vocabulary:
- Full
- Nearly full
- Half full
- Nearly empty
- Empty
They especially enjoyed exploring capacity in our outdoor water tray, where they filled and emptied different containers while using the new mathematical language. It was wonderful to see so much practical learning taking place!
It has been a fantastic week of learning, and we are so proud of how hard the children have worked. We are looking forward to discovering even more amazing sea creatures next week! 🐠🌊🦀
