☀️ Reception – Summer 2, Week 5 ☀️

Date: 10th Jul 2026 @ 6:38pm

This week the hot weather returned, and we all found it a little challenging! We made sure to make the most of the cooler parts of the day by going outside early in the morning and playing in the shade. One of the children's favourite activities was taking off their socks and shoes and paddling in the water to cool down!

The classrooms became very warm, so we did our best to stay comfortable with fans, water sprayers and lots of calming activities throughout the day. We were so proud of how sensible the children were in the hot weather.

📚 Literacy – Tiddler

This week we finished our learning based on Tiddler by Julia Donaldson.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed this story and have become so confident at joining in with the repeated refrains. We also explored some of the unfamiliar vocabulary from the story, and by the end of the week the children were using these new words confidently in their own conversations.

For our focused Literacy task, we learnt more about the sea and the amazing animals that live there. The children then chose their favourite sea creature and created a fact file, using their phonics knowledge to write interesting facts. We were so impressed with their enthusiasm and independent writing.

🔢 Maths – Sorting

In Maths, we revisited sorting.

The children did an amazing job sorting objects into multiple groups and were able to explain different ways of sorting, including by:

  • Colour
  • Shape
  • Size
  • Other features

It was fantastic to see them thinking carefully and explaining their reasoning so confidently.

🌟 Abbott's Got Talent!

On Wednesday, we enjoyed watching Abbott's Got Talent. The children loved seeing all of the different performances and were amazed by the variety of acts on display.

A huge well done to everyone who took part—you were all fantastic!

🏃 Sports Day Preparations

With Sports Day taking place next week, we have been busy practising our races and getting ready for the big day. The children have shown great determination and have been cheering each other on brilliantly.

We hope you are able to come along and support us—we can't wait to show you what we can do!

Despite the very warm weather, we have had another wonderful week of learning and fun. Thank you for continuing to send the children into school with water bottles, hats and sun cream. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Sports Day next week! ☀️🌊🏅
