🌷 Reception – Week 1, Spring 2 🌷
What a wonderful start to our new half term! The children returned to school full of enthusiasm and ready to learn. It has been fantastic to see their smiling faces and positive attitudes as they settled back into their routines.
📚 Our New Theme: Traditional Tales
The Gingerbread Man
This half term we have begun our new topic, Traditional Tales. For the next two weeks, we will be focusing on the story of The Gingerbread Man.
This week we thoroughly enjoyed reading the story together and talking about the different characters. The children were brilliant at remembering the repeated phrases and joining in with the storytelling.
We explored what the Gingerbread Man says in the story and used our phonics knowledge to write:
“Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!”
We were so impressed with how confidently the children applied their phonics in their writing.
In the creative area, the children designed their own gingerbread men, thinking carefully about how they would look and what decorations they might have. At the end of the week, we had lots of fun decorating real gingerbread men – and of course, tasting them afterwards! It was a delicious way to end a fantastic first week.
🔢 Maths – Number Bonds to 10
In Maths we have started our learning on number bonds to 10. We introduced the topic using the song 10 Green Bottles. We had fun singing the song together and taking turns being the bottles on the wall and falling down. We counted how many bottles were left standing and how many were on the floor! We then used ten frames to represent 10 in different ways. The children are getting so good at giving different number bonds to 10. Thank you for your support in helping them with this at home.
🌼 Understanding the World & P.E.
It will soon be St David’s Day, and we learnt about this in our Understanding the World lesson on Friday. We planted daffodils in our garden to mark the occasion and are looking forward to watching them grow.
We also started our new P.E. sessions. This term we are doing multi-sports, and we had lots of fun joining in with different activities in the hall. The children showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout.
We are so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been this week and look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead! ✨
