Reception week 6

This week Reception has been filled with festive excitement and wonderful learning experiences. As the 1st of December arrived, we enjoyed putting up our Christmas tree and decorating our classroom together. The children loved choosing decorations and helping to make our space feel magical for the run-up to Christmas. We received our advent calendars and are taking turns to open each door to see what surprise is inside!

On Monday, we took part in an online author event with Manchester Library, where we got to meet the author of one of our favourite stories - Handa’s Surprise! She is called Eileen Browne. She read us several of her stories, and we even joined in with some dances! It was a fantastic experience, and we had lots of fun linking up with many different schools across Manchester.

In Literacy, we finished our learning around Stick Man. We explored some of the unfamiliar vocabulary from the story, learning what the words mean and how to use them correctly. For our focus task, we imagined a new destination that Stick Man could visit. The children drew their ideas in their books and used their phonics knowledge to label their pictures. In the creative area, we also enjoyed painting Stick Man and the other characters from the story.

In Maths, we moved on to learning about space and positional language. The children had great fun placing toys in different positions and describing where they were, using words such as under, next to, behind, and in front of. We also explored directional language and practised following simple routes, talking through the movements as we went.

We are getting very busy with our Christmas preparations, with our performance and the Christmas Fair just around the corner. On Friday, the children came to school in their own clothes and brought in donations for the tombola. Thank you so much for your support!

It has been a wonderful, festive, and fun-filled week in Reception. We can’t wait for more Christmas excitement next week!
