Reception Week 8
Date: 22nd Oct 2026 @ 5:58pm
This week has been our final week of our first half term in Reception, and what a busy eight weeks it has been! We are incredibly proud of how well the children have settled into school life and all the progress they have made since starting Reception. They have worked so hard, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they explore, learn and develop new skills.
We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved half-term break, taking some time to rest, recharge and have lots of fun together as a family. Autumn 2 is always an exciting time in Early Years, with the run-up to Christmas bringing so many special, magical moments to look forward to!
A Spooky Halloween Week!
We have enjoyed a Halloween-themed week to bring our first half term to an end. Each day, we shared spooky stories and embraced the Halloween fun!
In Literacy, our focus task was to write Halloween-themed CVC words. The children have been doing so well in phonics and are becoming increasingly confident at recognising and using the sounds they have learnt. They are now beginning to apply these developing phonics skills to their own writing, and we are so pleased with the progress they are making!
Exploring 2D Shapes
In Maths, we continued our learning about shape and finished our topic by exploring 2D shapes. The children were fantastic at remembering the names of different shapes, so we focused on looking more closely at their properties. We explored what makes each shape special and discovered that a shape remains the same even when we turn or rotate it. We have some fantastic little mathematicians in Reception!
Spooky Zoom Fun!
On Thursday, we joined lots of other schools from around the country for a special Halloween-themed spooky Zoom session. We listened to spooky stories and joined in with lots of Halloween fun, making it a lovely way to celebrate the end of our term together.
We would like to wish all our families a happy and restful half-term holiday! Thank you for all your support during our first eight weeks. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 2nd November for the start of our next half term, filled with new adventures, exciting learning and plenty of Christmas magic! 🎄✨
