Safer Internet Day 2026

Date: 14th Feb 2026 @ 7:25am

This week, we took part in Safer Internet Day and enjoyed learning all about how to stay safe when using technology.

The theme for Safer Internet Day this year was “Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.” Although this sounds like a big idea, we explored it in a simple and child-friendly way!

We joined a special online Zoom session where we learned about how computers learn. The children discovered that computers need people to give them instructions and information to help them work. We talked about how technology can be very helpful, but also how it is important to make good choices when we use it.

After the session, we had a class discussion about screen time. We talked about how computers, tablets and phones can be fun and useful, but that it is also important not to spend too much time on them. The children shared their ideas about how they can stay healthy by taking breaks, playing outside, and spending time with family and friends.

To finish our learning, the children drew wonderful pictures of things they enjoy that do not use screens. We saw drawings of playing in the park, riding bikes, building with blocks, reading stories, painting, baking and playing with friends. It was lovely to see so many happy, active ideas!

Safer Internet Day helped us to remember that while technology can be exciting, making safe and sensible choices is very important. We are proud of how thoughtfully the children took part and shared their ideas.
