Science - Our Solar System

Date: 14th Oct 2020 @ 8:24am

Year 5 have been exploring our solar system this half term.  They have been learning about the different planets; they now know the order of the planets and created their own mnemonics to help them to remember; they have been learning about the size of the planets; they know how long they take to orbit the sun and that one rotation around the sun equals one day on that planet - some planets have days that are equivalent to over 300 days on earth!

In order to gain a deeper understanding of the distance of the planets from the sun, the children created a scaled version of the solar system.  This helped them to visualise the vast distances between the planets in our solar system.
