Seasonal Changes

Date: 18th Oct 2023 @ 2:25pm

In Science, we have been learning about the 4 seasons! The children were able to identify different items of clothing that they wear in different seasons and explain why.

Autumn- The children learnt that in Autumn leaves start to change colour because there is less sunlight. They also learned that birds start to migrate to warmer climates for winter.

Winter- We learnt how snow is made (when water vapour in the air freezes) and what snowflakes are made up of (crystals of ice that have formed around bits of dirt in the air). We also learnt that most plants and trees stop growing due to the extreme weather conditions and many animals start to hibernate. As a class, we made our own snow and crystals.

Spring- Although it isn't spring yet, we found out that there is often lots of rainfall, which helps plants and flowers grow. We also learnt that eggs start to hatch, rainbows are formed, flowers begin to bloom and animals start to come out of hibernation. We made our own rain gauges that we will use to measure the amount of rainfall over time.

Summer- The children learned some very important messages about how to stay safe in the sun. We also made our own UV bead bracelets: the children predicted what they thought would happen to them in different areas of the school. We found out that the sun rays were stronger in the playground, therefore the beads changed colour the most there.
