Spring 1: Week 1

Date: 12th Jan 2023 @ 6:23am

What a fabulous first week back we had! It was lovely to hear about what the children had done over the holidays, and see how happy they were to be back in school.

Although we haven't started our new text in English, we did start to learn about what life was like in Ancient Egypt, which links to our new text 'The Egyptian Cinderella' that we will start next week. First, the children had to predict what they thought the images/artefacts were and what they were used for; this prompted great discussion. Then, we learnt about the importance of The River Nile for the Ancient Egyptians and how they used it to grow food and crops, transport and trade goods, and how they used the mud from The Nile to build.

We have started our Geography unit which is all about sustainability. The children could identify many reasons why the pictures showed a more sustainable life. Also, they now know the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy sources. It has been great to hear many children talk about how they are already trying to be more sustainable at home by turning off plug sockets, switching lights off, recycling more etc. We will continue to explore this topic next week, which the children are very excited about!
