Spring 1 - Week 2
Date: 15th Jan 2026 @ 4:59pm
This week in Reception we have continued exploring our exciting Space theme and have finished our learning around the story Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers.
In literacy, we revisited some of the unfamiliar vocabulary from the story and talked carefully about what the words mean and how we can use them. For our focus task, the children wrote about ways that we can take care of our planet, sharing some thoughtful ideas about looking after the environment.
In maths, we continued developing our number skills to 10. The children have gained confidence in adding numbers within 10 and recording their answers using pictures, marks, and numbers. It has been wonderful to see their growing independence and accuracy.
We have also continued our creative learning linked to space and Earth. This week, the children used watercolours to paint beautiful pictures of the Earth, carefully mixing colours to create different effects. We built rockets using magnetic tiles and explored scented playdough to create imaginative spaceships and aliens. These activities supported creativity, fine motor skills, and collaborative play.
It has been another busy and engaging week full of curiosity, creativity, and excellent learning. Well done, Reception!
