Spring 1 Week 3

Date: 23rd Jan 2020 @ 5:18pm

This week, we have started to read our new text, which is 'The Lady of Shalott' by Alfred Tennyson. The children used their prior knowledge of King Arthur and the Anglo-Saxons to make fantastic predictions of what they thought the poem was going to be about. Most of our work this week has been focused around the language in the text, which is quite difficult to understand. However, the children made inferences based on the pictures and the rest of the text to try and figure out what some of the trickier words meant. To help them practise their spellings, the children did a Quiz Quiz Trade, where they had to ask their partner how to spell a word and coach them if needed.

In Maths, the children have begun to identify what mixed numbers, improper fractions, and proper fractions are. To help them understand this, they had to match a pictorial representation to its mixed number and improper fraction. We've also enjoyed playing our favourite countdown game and the children are getting much better at it!

Over the past two weeks, we have been really busy learning all about mountains. The children enjoyed using the maps and showing off their map skills to identify different mountains and mountain ranges around the world; they were fascinated by some of the countries that had mountains. They then researched some of the mountains they had found to share with the class.
