Spring 1 - Week 4
Date: 30th Jan 2026 @ 3:42pm
This week Reception has been full of creativity, imagination, and fantastic learning.
We transformed our role-play area into a café, and the children have absolutely loved taking turns to play inside. They enjoyed taking on different roles such as chefs, waiters, and customers, using lots of language and teamwork as they played.
In literacy, we continued our learning around the story Aliens Love Underpants. This week, we explored some of the tricky words from the story and talked about what they mean and how to use them. For our focus task, the children wrote about where the aliens might take the underpants and what they might do with them. They came up with some wonderfully imaginative ideas and used their phonics skills confidently to label their work.
In maths, we focused on addition within 10 using the part–whole model. The children are becoming increasingly confident at adding the two parts (groups) together to find the whole (total). They enjoyed using practical resources to support their understanding.
This week, we also got creative through junk modelling. The children designed and built their own rockets and spaceships using boxes, egg cartons, tubs, and bottles. They then decorated their creations with tissue paper, showing great imagination and problem-solving skills. The finished models look fantastic!
It has been another busy and successful week in Reception. Well done to all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm!
