Spring 1 - Week 5

Date: 5th Feb 2026 @ 5:27pm

This week in Reception we started our brand-new Valentine’s theme, and it has been full of excitement, creativity, and fun.

We transformed our café role-play area into a Valentine’s café, where the children loved dressing up in their new aprons and chef’s hats. They enjoyed taking on different roles and using lots of language as they played.

Around the classroom, we took part in a variety of Valentine’s-themed activities, including printing heart shapes to make beautiful cards, pink and red playdough, valentines themed letter writing and valentines pictures to paint and colour.

In literacy, we began our new story Max and the Tag-Along Moon. The children have enjoyed reading this story each day and are becoming familiar with the characters and events in the story.

In maths, we have been focusing on measure, exploring length, height, and distance. The children enjoyed comparing objects and talking about which were longer, taller, or further away, using practical resources to support their learning. We especially enjoyed measuring each other to see who were the tallest and shortest members in our class!

It has been another busy week in Reception, full of learning, creativity, and fun. Well done to all the children for their fantastic efforts!
