Spring 1: Week 6

Date: 8th Feb 2024 @ 11:02am

The children have enjoyed our geography lessons this week! We have been learning about countries around the world and their climates. The children had to use maps to locate different countries, and then use climate/temperature maps and keys to figure out whether they were hot, warm, cool, cold, wet or dry- they had fun finding the countries on the maps! They now also know that countries closer to the equator (an imaginary line across the middle of the Earth) are hotter than the North and South Poles because sunlight hits Earth most directly at the equator. Also, that the curve of the Earth means that sunlight is spread over a wider area the further you move from the Equator. Sunlight hits a smaller surface area at the Equator so heats up quickly compared to the poles.

We have almost finished our gymnastics unit now and the children have blown me away with their skills! This week, they practised their roles, shapes and travels using the mats and benches and started to put together short sequences. Next week, they will be working in groups to create routines to music!
