Spring 2 Week 3

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 7:29am

We have had another busy, yet fun week in Class 5!

To help us practise our tricky spellings, we played a Quiz Quiz Trade game as a class. Each child wrote one of the spellings on their white boards and then paired up to quiz, teach and trade their spellings with their partners. In English, we have been reading the story Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo. Firstly, we had a class debate and used a conscience alley to decide whether we thought Beowulf should go to Heorot or not. Then we focused on the vocabulary in the story and how the writer uses descriptive features to engage the reader, which is what we have done as we have retold the story (some from Beowulf's perspective and some from a guards perspective.

We have started our new Science topic all about forces! We used a range of sources to find out as much as we could before the lesson. Amelia and Leighton found out that there is a train called a maglev train that has magnets instead of wheels! The electomagnets in the guideway repel the magnets underneath the train and lift it. We learnt what gravity is and how it acts on objects, then explored the work of Isaac Newton and Galileo Galilei. After that, we carried out an investigation to test the strength of gravity acting on objects, by measuring the weight of objects using a newton meter.
