Week 3 in Reception

What a busy and exciting week we have had in Reception! We have continued our work on our ‘All About Me’ topic and have enjoyed lots of opportunities to learn more about ourselves and celebrate what makes us unique.

📚 In Literacy, we explored the lovely story We Are All Different. We talked about our own differences and similarities and discussed how everyone is special in their own way. In the Creative Area, we made stick puppet people of ourselves, using a variety of materials to represent our different features.

✏️ Our Literacy focus task this week was learning to write our names. We used our name cards to help us identify the different letters in our names and had a go at writing them independently. We also practised holding our pencils correctly and applying the right amount of pressure when writing. We will continue to practise this skill, with daily name-writing sessions each morning to help us become more confident.

🔢 In Maths, we continued our work on numbers to 5, focusing particularly on the number 4. We had lots of opportunities to practise counting, recognising and writing the number 4, as well as spotting numbers in our environment.

🔵 On Tuesday, we celebrated International Dot Day! The children looked fantastic coming to school in their dotty clothes. The day was all about exploring creativity, so we spent lots of time getting creative and enjoying the wonderful dot-themed activities on offer. It was lovely to see the children using their imaginations and having fun with their creations!

🩺 On Thursday, we had a visit from the school nurses for our height and weight checks. We all went into the hall where the nurses carefully measured us. The children were incredibly sensible and did such a fantastic job of waiting patiently for their turn. We were very proud of them!

👖 On Friday, we celebrated Jeans for Genes Day. The children came to school wearing their jeans and we made a donation to support this wonderful charity. Thank you to all our families for your kind contributions.

What a busy but very enjoyable week we have had! We have been so impressed with the children's confidence, enthusiasm and willingness to join in with all of our activities.

Well done, Reception! We can't wait to see what next week will bring!
