Week 5 in Reception
Date: 10th Oct 2025 @ 5:14pm
This week has been full of colour and creativity in Reception!
In literacy, we have been reading The Colour Monster. We used our phonics skills to label the different feelings shown by the colour monster and explored the topic of emotions together. The children shared their ideas about what we can do when we feel a certain way, such as talking to someone, taking a break, or finding something that makes us happy.
In the creative area, we made our very own colour monsters – each one unique and full of expression!
In maths, we have moved on to comparing quantities of identical objects. The children practised saying which group had more and which had fewer, building their understanding of comparison in a hands-on way.
We also began our artwork for Black History Month. We were inspired by the artist Alma Thomas and explored her beautiful, colourful mosaics. The children created their own mosaic-inspired artwork, experimenting with shape and colour to make bright and eye-catching designs. These wonderful creations will be displayed in school for everyone to enjoy!
It has been a fantastic week of learning, exploring feelings, and celebrating art through colour, We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
