Week 7 in Reception
Date: 16th Oct 2026 @ 4:23pm
After a very unsettled start to the week following our EYFS closure, we have had a busy and productive week in Reception!
Talking About Our Worries
This week, we moved on to talking about worries and shared the story The Very Hungry Worry Monsters by Rosie Greening. We each had the opportunity to tell our class worry monster about our own worries, allowing the monster to gobble them up and take them away!
During our literacy focus task, we drew pictures of our worries in our books and used our phonics knowledge to label them.
In the creative area, we also made our very own paper bag worry monsters to take home. We hope these will be helpful little friends whenever we have a worry to share!
Exploring 3D Shapes
In maths, we began our new learning about shape, focusing on 3D shapes. We enjoyed learning our 3D shape song and discovering the names and properties of different shapes. We explored which shapes can stack and which shapes can roll, using our observations to help us sort and compare them.
We ended the week with an exciting pumpkin rolling competition! 🎃 We investigated the shape of our pumpkin and discovered that its curved, sphere-like surface allowed it to roll. We then measured how far it travelled and compared our results. It was a fun, hands-on way to put our new shape knowledge into practice!
Take a look at our photos to see all the fun, exploration and learning we have enjoyed in Reception this week!
