World Book Day/Week

Date: 6th Mar 2024 @ 8:07am

This week, we have thoroughly enjoyed all things reading!

On Tuesday, we joined author-illustrator Emma Reynolds for an 'Amara and the Bats' storytime, bat fact interactive fun and batty draw-along. The children loved learning about how vital and amazing bats are and enjoyed drawing pictures, following Emma's instructions.

On Wednesday, we joined in with counting fun and drawing along with Kael Tudor and Nicola Slater:  Inspired by their new picture book One Goose, Two Moose,  we went to an ice cream shop where there’s a goose line, a moose line and a slightly bossy goose! We joined Kael for a read-along and then learned to draw a goose and a moose with Nicola Slater! I was very impressed with the children's drawings as they had used some techniques that they learnt last half term (continuous lines, different lines, shading and sketching).

On World Book Day, we discussed the importance of reading for pleasure and how reading makes us feel. It was nice to hear how many children love to read! The children were able to share their favourite books and began to discuss which authors they liked and why. The children then chose from a range of activities: listening to an audiobook, designing and making a superhero mask for their favourite character, designing a bookmark or writing their own story.

Year 4 then came and paired up with us! The children enjoyed listening to them read and enjoyed sharing stories with them.
